Strikes at Surinam Hospitals

After agreement over compensation payments the strikes at Land's Hospital and County's hospital New Nickerie were ended, but conflict and disputes are still continuing at the Academic Hospital in Paramaribo.

Relatively low wages in the care sector were lagging behind rising inflation for several years in a row. This led to dissatisfaction on the work floor.

Since 2004 the Surinam Dollar lost 31% of its value. So the purchase power of wages became problematic for the workers.
